Senior Research Officer

Debbie is a Senior Research Officer at OnePlusOne, and has been part of the team since 2014.

She completed her undergraduate degree in Diet & Health at Bath Spa University, and was recently awarded a PhD in Sociology from Leeds Beckett University for her doctoral work on the influence that gay men in couple relationships have on one another's health practices. She has worked as a researcher in the charitable sector and academia and, to date, has published 13 peer-reviewed academic journal articles, and two academic book reviews. She also acts as a reviewer for two academic journals.

Most recently, she has engaged in OnePlusOne projects with a focus on the experiences of those going through relationship breakdown, the associations between relationships and the work sphere, and the impact of various health issues on couple and family relationships. She is also involved in the evaluation of our relationship support services and training programmes, which are designed to help strengthen relationships.

Her research interests include the social processes and functions of close relationships, gender and other social identities, LGBTQ issues, and health and wellbeing. She is also interested in employing primary research and programme evaluation to inform policy and practice in these areas.
